1. If Paris Hilton had been a short, fat, bald, male mogul with glasses too big for his head, would she be going through all this? 2. Why can’t Paris Hilton wear her blue contact lenses in prison? Why did one outlet, when reporting on that fact, offer the amusing headline, “Don’t It Make My Blue Eyes Brown”? Is that funny? Or just mean? Can we tell the difference anymore? 3. Why are people happy over the fact that Paris Hilton would be denied the use of her hair extensions in prison? Didn’t we all like her with her hair extensions? Do you want to be seen without your hair extensions? 4. Why did people at a recent awards show laugh and hoot at Paris Hilton, who was in attendance, when host Sarah Silverman made fun of her? Why did most people, including the media, express giggly satisfaction when the camera then focused on her impassive face, trembling on the verge of tears? Would we all have been even more pleased if she had run sobbing from the room then? Or was it better that we had to wait a couple more days for that? 5. Does anybody really doubt that Paris Hilton is on some kind of medication that helps her maintain the weird, Mona Lisa smile that has become her trademark? Are people aware of what it’s like to stop medication like that cold turkey? 6. Does anybody really doubt that, when freed by the Sheriff and confined to her home, Paris Hilton truly believed, for some reason, that she would be permitted to attend the hearing by telephone? Was it really necessary to send policemen to drag her out into the sunlight, throw her in a vehicle and drag her down to the court with hundreds of vicious paparazzi, helicopters, etc., in attendance? Why were there so many photographers there? How did they know to be there at exactly the right time? Or are they just there ALL the time? 7. What’s with this judge? Doesn’t he seem like he’s on a jihad of some kind? If you were in trouble, would you want to be confronted with somebody so implacable, cruel, jealous of his power, obviously emotional, who appears to take your situation very personally and is determined to see you punished to the full extent of the law? If you or one of your friends screw up, do you want to be punished to the full extent of the law? Is anybody in this whole society, come to think of it, punished to the full extent of the law? Why is everybody so pleased with this guy? 8. And why is everybody so mad at the Sheriff who got Paris Hilton temporarily sprung? Because he’s standing in the way of justice? Or because, in treating Paris Hilton like a young, sick celebrity in need of certain kinds of help, he’s being, like, a total party pooper? 9. Is this really about equal treatment under the law? Or is it possibly about some kind of ritual punishment? For what? 10. Aren’t we all having way too much fun with this? And why? I agree and Paris Hilton is someone I really do not care for. This is a why to give power to those who do not posses such capabilities. Let’s punish the person beyond reason because she was more fortunate in life than they were. I believe she needs to learn a lesson but not become a victim to society’s whims. Posted By Big G San Diego CA : June 11, 2007 12:18 pm
All great questions. For their answers, I recommend Walker Percy’s “Lost in the Cosmos.” He really nailed it. Posted By Ann Essex, CT : June 11, 2007 12:19 pm
Because the privileged always seem to get what they want. She didn’t make her money and probably won’t ever. she broke the law and needs to pay just like the rest of us joe’s. it probably also comes down to her lawyers..you know her daddy is awfully mum about this whole thing..mom is right there..is that so odd?? Posted By Chuck, Newington CT : June 11, 2007 12:21 pm
Get real. Let her take her punishment like anybody else and get it over with. I for one have had enough of Parris. No, I’m not jealous. Personally, all I see is a pretty little rich girl whose claim to fame is money and partying. Maybe she needs a reality check. We all do at some time during our lives. This is not the worst thing that can happen and it may just open her eyes and save her life or someone else’s. By the way, I do have a very open mind but don’t you think after 3 times it is time to show her there are laws for everyone. Posted By Pat, Georgetown, SC : June 11, 2007 12:22 pm
It IS about equal justice, not the “celebrity justice” we see all the time. If Paris IS on meds to maintain, someone should tell her that psychotropics do not mix well with alcohol and street drugs. Stop feeling sorry for her. It’s obvious someone has done that all her life. As for our voyeuristic society, don’t celebs of her stature live in glass houses for our viewing ?pleasure? Why is everybody so pleased with this guy? Because he’s seen her “act”, too? Posted By Anonymous Coward the third, Rochester, MN : June 11, 2007 12:33 pm
Who is Paris Hilton? Posted By Dano, old bridge, NJ : June 11, 2007 12:34 pm
I don’t think we are having too much fun with this at all. In a city that glorifies false idols, it is refreshing to see one finally put in her place. If she had taken SOME responsibility for her actions, perhaps she would not have been treated so harshly. But to have not one, not two, but THREE strikes against her and then to blame her handlers is just truly laughable. Hopefully, the reports of her learning a lesson through all this is true, and not just what her publicist told her to say. This whole saga has exposed her whole family as the false-valued rats nest that they are. How else could they raise such a child. I truly hope this will be a new enlightened chapter in her life…where she realizes what a lucky person she is and how she could use her position as something positive rather than just being a dumb party girl….THEN I will give her a hug and apologize…..not before. Paris deserves to be in jail for the full time. Treat her like an adult snd hold he accountable. She is not a pet and does not deserve special breaks and accomodations. Posted By DJM, Newport News, va : June 11, 2007 12:36 pm

I have little sympathy for someone with 2 DUI’s, and maybe a third where she got off easy. She’s putting other people’s lives at risk, and that’s the point. Media coverage is inherently unfair, but certainly she has seemed unapologetic and focussed on herself – not on the people she has been putting at risk. She needs to understand that impaired driving is a big deal. A commuted sentence won’t help get that message across. Perhaps her 45 day sentence will. Howdy, This is my first time to read one of these “blogs”, and was I surprised. Paris Hilton did not violate her probation once, but several times. She was convinced she was above the law. Well the judge just did what he should have done from the beginning, locked her happy fanny up for violating the law, contempt of Court, and the list goes on. Face it gang, you gonna do the crime, your gonna do the time. If this felon was male, black, indigent, he would be spending the 45 days in jail, unless of course the jail was too crowded with young, rich, above the law females. Then again it could just be one big publicity hype deal to keep the “star” in the news, much like the Donald and Rosy O’Donald feud. Stanley, I hope you are not asking all these questions seriously. But here are some answers. In most cases, the answer is “because most other people would treated this way.’ 1. “Short, fat, bald, male mogul with glasses too big for his head would not be released after 3 days. Nor would he expect a phone hearing instead of personal appearance. Ted Kozlowsky from Tyco was in court in person. 2. Do other inmates wear blue contact lenses in prison? If they don’t, why should Hilton do? The reason of banning “blue contact lenses” in prison might be that those lenses are mostly used by someone trying to look pretty. One inmate trying to look pretty for another is not what a prison administration would usually desire. And if there is a ban on them, Paris should follow the rules. 3. Same for hair extension. Do I want to be seen without my hair extension? Frankly, while going to prison, vanity would not be on top of my list. 5. Just have Paris continue her medication while in prison. Other inmates take theirs, I understand. 6. The fact that Paris expected nothing less than a phone hearing only shows how much the idea of referenced treatment is implanted in her mind. And what she expects is irrelevant. I don’t expect a judge paying me courtesy call if I have DWI conviction. The policemen at her house is how people who miss their court appearance are brought to court. The handcuffs are part of standard procedures. They are placed on EVERY person under arrest who is transferred to court. Even for white collar non-violate offenders, the handcuffs are used as a matter of policy, making a deliberate point that the laws and procedures are used uniformly for every one. 7. The judge… If you issue an order, which is supposed to be carried out, and it gets ignored bluntly, wouldn’t you be rather straight forward about making a point that the law shouldn’t be overruled. And if there are signs of abusing the legal system, aren’t judges required to make sure the abuse stops? It is no longer about her DWI but about actively seeking ways to work around a court decision – hardly qualifies as “good behavior.” 8. The sheriff. When he let someone go after 3 days, but you know for sure you personally end up being there for at least 23 days, you would be PISSED! 9. Yes it is. It is about taking little harsher steps towards a person who tries to avoid equal treatment. Paris tried to get preferential, she got stronger rebuke. 10. Yeah, maybe. In general, there are quite a few rules and laws that we have that are specifically designed to let public know that fat cats and insiders don’t get preferential treatment in certain areas, to support public trust in equality. Those laws are carried out (think of insider trading laws) and judicial system if one of the area where an appearance of equality is as important as justice itself. Hope this answers your questions. I hope Paris grows and emerges with a more total view of reality. Verses the wealthy socialite fastlane perspective which is a tragedy in itself. On the witch burners, IMO society would be better served by a focus on real issues of society and the country. Iraq, poverty, drug addiction, aids, youth violence, illiteracy. These are real issues and can use real problem solving, public debate and action (Verse Paris and peoples opinions of her problems). Posted By Larry, Austin Texas : June 11, 2007 12:55 pm
Paris, deserves to go to jail for the time the judge requested. Everyone is making a big deal out of it because she thinks she can just get out of something because she’s famous – which should not be the case. I say she goes to jail for a few years so I don’t have to hear anything about her or her “That’s Hot” bull sh*t. Posted By Brian, Baltimore Maryland : June 11, 2007 12:55 pm
I do agree that is had becove a rediculous media frenzy, HOWEVER, why is is so wrong that after all these years, she is finally having to become responsidle. She was arrested for DUI and then got caught driving on a suspended license not once, but twice. Then she acted as if it wasn’t her problem. She is rediculously spoiled and it is time that she realize her fame does not put her above the law. Posted By Michael, Rogers AR : June 11, 2007 1:03 pm
Too many cruel people on this world, especially if somebody has more than others. No compassion, she is just getting used to living a live and she seems to have more problems than her sister. We should show compassion. There is too less of it in this world. Thats why it is so screwed up. That is not to say that there should be no consequences but one can do this in a human manner. Personally I think all the hype is because people are sick of seeing Celebs seemingly getting away with anything they do. If she broke probation then yes she should serve the time. Posted By Dennis,Baltimore MD : June 11, 2007 1:35 pm
I am not really sure about the answers to the ten questions. However, what amazes me is that all i see on the news is the paris hilton story. I am not talking about access hollywood, instead it is plastered all over the evening news, cnn…. Why does anybody care? Why do people know so much about her and her criminal record? Reading some of the comments here caught me by surprise. For example someone commented on how her mom is by her side more than her dad. Why the hell would one know this or even care? everybody that has commented has just jumped in with their thoughts on this situation instead of asking why one would care to waist their time educating themselves on the matter. I guess i make this comment with more of an inquisitive nature than an accusational one. Why do people care? Why is Paris Hilton even famous? Posted By Gonzales los alamos, nm : June 11, 2007 5:52 pm
Stanley: You need to go back to your refuge in Westchester, Greenwich, upper East or West Side (fill in blank) and rethink this. Break the law, do the time, period Posted By Keih Oceanside NY : June 11, 2007 6:15 pm
Prison won’t be that bad for Paris. She needs a break. The only downside is that she will have to go without drugs, sex, and alcohol for a few weeks. Wait a minute! No drugs, sex, and alcohol for a few weeks?!? I feel bad for her! She is going to suffer! Why oh why must she be tortured so? Mags and TV “entertainment” shows pay big bucks for just the right show (a human being in the dumpiest position possible)… why? Because of mag sales and ratings to please the hogs at the trough. “Pork” isn’t just for D.C. folks, it is for all of us! Posted By Gordon Tjelmeland, Clive, IA : June 11, 2007 7:28 pm
I agree totally Mr.Bing! I have a daughter about the same age as Paris and so I feel sorry for her. I think it’s tragic that her parents seem to be totally helpless in reaching out to her and giving her any kind of guidance. Don’t they see what is happening to their child? Where is the concern for the well being of their child? As a parent I would be heart sick if I saw this same pattern of behavior in my own daughter. Maybe that is what’s wrong with Paris; she doesn’t feel as anyone cares. Posted By Ken, Florece SC : June 12, 2007 12:56 pm
Watching TV last night, there was a news item about a guy who hit another car, jumped out of his car and started running. His Police record for Driving Under the Influence was 9 Pages long and why wasn’t he in jail? Prison over crowding was the answer. Are the Prisons in Michigan that much more overcrowded than those in California? Posted By Nicole, Sterling Heights MI : June 15, 2007 2:17 pm
Aw come on, Stanley–What do you expect the media to do? Devote all that space to the young Americans of the same age daily getting killed and wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq? Paris getting her comeuppance for driving drunk twice and with license suspended is FU-UN. The other stuff going on is a downer… and makes us think bad thoughts about our leaders… Posted By Kate, NY, NY : June 19, 2007 10:57 am
I’d say the law is being asked to do what her parents failed to do or didn’t bother to try and that is learn some responsibility. It is more unfortunate that the legal system continues to be asked to do this more and more often. As for Paris herself, she needs to learn a little responsibility as at some point, she will have to either take over daddy’s business or will have to marry someone who can run daddy’s business.
