Bob, the kids don't play Pac Man in arcades anymore. You can break a sweat just watching some kid play Dance Dance Revolution.

"Nobody wants to do any work right now, do they? Do you?".

Nobody for golf? No lunch time jog? No biking? No rock climbing?

It seems that "BIG BROTHER" is winning; he's got us all contained in our private "CYBER THEATERS".

In work, at home, or at the arcade he channels audios and visuals, in psychodelic mode, into our subjective minds as our instincts and senses atrophy into obscurity.

Are we creating a population of "ZOMBIES"?

I prefer just walking around. If some type of meaningful management comes from it, then that is a true blessing. At the least it is good wholesome exercise in an air conditioned environment, you do not have to pay to be there, and sometimes the view (you guys know what I mean) is worth the effort.

11.) Thank the universe, god, allah, ect for having a source of income. Look around your office and appreciate what you have even if it isn't much.

Did you know it takes over 6 weeks on average to get approved for unemployment?

I attend a Professional Networking Group of other out of work professionals that include ops and training managers, engineers, and other roles. Most of them are like me and have been out of work for 3 months and still have no prospects.

I would invite you to my LinkedIn network, but unlike so many who send invites to me, I appear to be in the minority of those who only link with people I do, actually, know.

Why break that streak now?

"Management by Walking Around" (MBYA) is credited to William Keefer, former president of Warner electric. Tom Peters recgnized him in one of his "Excellence" books.

I worked under Keefer's regime, and I can state that under him, the method was quite effective. His recall for facts (and for your previous statements) was legendary. He held people accountable. He was always polite and cordial, and would have addressed you as "Mr. Bing". Yet he could wilt you in a moment if your answers were not satisfactory.

For Keefer, MBWA was his way of getting instant updates, face-to-face, without any interference or distraction. He also was able to pick up on issues, details, and problems which would not have reached his desk through normal channels. His visits were sometimes feared, and sometimes welcomed -- depending on the conversation you desired with him. His visits provided a conduit to the top. One was careful not to abuse that privilege.

MBWA is sometimes viewed as a waste of time, if not used properly. Keefer was the master of MBWA, and it worked astonishingly well for him.
